A SAFE SPACE FOR SENSITIVE SOULS TO HEAL AND THRIVE
Therapy for Highly Sensitive People in Pasadena, CA
"Being highly sensitive is like having a finely tuned nervous system. It's a trait, not a flaw."
- Dr. Elaine Aron, Ph.D.
According to Dr. Elaine Aron, the leader in researching high sensitivity since 1991, this trait affects 15-20% of our population. Keep in mind, this is a trait rather than a disorder. What that means is this trait affects the way we take in sensory, environmental, and social inputs and how we experience emotions. This can look like:
Depth of processing: HSPs tend to think deeply about decisions, how they affect others, the state of the world around them, and ideas. They also often need some time to adjust to new experiences.
Overstimulation: HSPs tend to feel stressed more easily than others by things like chaotic situations, managing multiple tasks, or loud noises.
Emotional reactivity: HSPs have big feelings, whether or not they are expressed.
Sensory sensitivity: HSPs can be sensitive to light, irritated by subtle sounds (or even wind), notice small items out of place, or struggle with transitions from day to night or season to season.
Healing begins when sensitivity is honored.
Our work Together
Often our society shames sensitive people, giving messages that we should be able to need or feel less, handle more, get over things, or just be less sensitive. You’ve probably heard this messaging throughout your life – Toughen up or You’re too sensitive. But the truth is that while high sensitivity has its challenges, it is also a unique and valuable gift that enriches our experiences and relationships. You have a profound capacity for empathy and are acutely aware of the needs and emotions of people around you. At the same time, you might struggle to manage feeling your emotions strongly or soaking in the emotions of others. You may spend a lot of time feeling uncomfortable in your body, overstimulated by your environment, or even overwhelmed by the daily responsibilities of work or parenting.
You are not alone. Starting to understand your sensitivity is the first step to healing. As a fellow HSP, I know how difficult this can be. By working together to better understand your sensitivity, we can find ways to recognize and manage overwhelm, effectively tend to your needs, and bring forward self-compassion in the place of self-criticism.
Find relief in accepting all parts of who you are and step into a life of authenticity.
